Blackball Box

This blackball box was used by early Alpha Omicron Pi members during membership selection. Using this system, members submitted either a white ball or a black ball into the box during voting. White balls indicated a yes vote and a black ball indicated a no vote. Initially, a single "blackball" vote could prevent someone from being pledged. This practice changed in 1929.
